Tri-City: Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia - only on request !

daily

Tri-City is a word using to describe the municipal agglomeration formed by the three cities of Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia. Our tour includes a visit to the Old Town in Gdansk (called the maritime capital of Poland, is a city with over a thousand year history. It enchants tourists with the beauty of its renaissance tenement houses and Gothic churches, with its charming, narrow medieval streets and the wealth of its museum collections), and a drive to Oliwa, a district of Gdansk, with a famous Cistercian Cathedral from the 13th century and a splendid pipe organ (almost 8000 elements). The 20 minute organ music concerts take place here every day. It is also possible to rest in the beautifull park surrounding the cathedral. Next to Oliwa stretches Sopot - a spa resort, famous since the 19th century. In 1823 Napoleon's former doctor, Jean Haffner found that this place was perfect for building baths. Soon, Sopot became a popular venue for leisure. The Monte Cassino promenade is full of tourists, nice cafes, bars and restaurants. An attraction which should not be missed is Sopot Pier, the longest wooden pier in Europe (over 0,5 km) along with a recreation center on the square at the entrance. When tired of tourists, sea and sandy beaches we recommend visiting the Forest Opera, picturesquely located among the wooded hills. Next to Sopot is Gdynia - born from the sea and the dream of Polish people wanting to have their own sea port, just after regaining independence in 1918. A small village soon became a modern city, base for the merchant and fishing fleet and seat of the Maritime Academy. Each year its port is visited by many cruise ships. Take a walk on the main boulevard and feel that this city really is born from the sea. For those who have some more time we offer a short stop in Orlowo (a district of Gdynia bordering Sopot) with an impressive cliff and small, charming pier.

Westerplatte Peninsula & Gdansk Harbour by boat -

only on request !

daily

The tour starts from "Długie Pobrzeże" - a picturesque street on Motława harbour in the city center. For more than 1000 years of its history Gdańsk was a port town, a "Golden Gate" to the kingdom of Poland. On the way to Westerplatte you'll see the old port, the industrial area of the famous Gdańsk Shipyard, Wisloujscie Fortress and a lighthouse from the 19th century in Nowy Port district.
And finally Westerplatte - a small peninsula at the end of Port Canal, a place where World War II began. Two hundred people from the Polish Military Outpost heroically defended their country for 7 days against the overwhelming German forces. They were attacked from the land, air, and water, though this is hard to believe, especially after visiting this tiny piece of land. There is a 25m high monument from 1966 on the green hill, commemorating all those who died fighting for freedom in 1939. After visiting the area of the former Military Outpost we recommend climbing the hill to admire the view on the Gdańsk port. Many things have changed here since 1939, but the spirit of those days still remains.

Malbork - a city located about 60km from Gdańsk (one hour drive). This place is not to be missed during your stay in the Pomerania region. The main attraction is a fortified castle from the late 13th-century, belonging to the Teutonic Order, enlarged and embellished after 1309, when the knights conquered Gdańsk and the seat of the Grand Master moved from Venice to Malbork. In 1997 the castle was put on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "... the most complete and elaborate example of the Gothic brick castle complex in the characteristic and unique style of the Teutonic Order, which evolved independently of the contemporary castles of western Europe...". The former Nazi Concentration Camp in Stutthof was established at the beginning of September 1939 and was the oldest camp of mass-extermination in Poland. The place is located about a one hour drive from Gdańsk center. The first prisoners were representatives of Polish associations in Free City of Danzig. Within the 5 years of camp existence, 120.000 of men, women and children were kept here (about a half of them were Jews). Almost 65.000 prisoners died as result of murdering in gas chambers, beating, hanging, torturing and making medical tests by mad scientists.
Stutthof was liberated at the beginning of May 1945 by the Soviet Army. Nowadays the place hosts the National Museum of Stutthof, established in 1962 including post-camp buildings, prisoners' barracks, gas chambers, crematory, gallows. There is also a permanent exhibition dedicated to the prisoners of Stutthof inside the post-camp buildings. On the back of the wall there is a Reliquary of nearly completely burnt human remains from the holocaustal stake - place where in the years of 1944 and 1945 the Nazis burnt the bodies of their victims.
